Residents urged to host a Cuppa For CANSA
Ms Scholtz said research has shown that rooibos contains anti-oxidants that help fight cancer.
The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) will today, June 8, launch its annual campaign, Cuppa For CANSA.
Through the campaign, the organisation encourages members of the public to host Cuppa events in support of the CANSA Care Homes.
The homes accommodate cancer patients undergoing treatment at oncology clinics far from their homes.
Members of the public are invited to attend and hear how they can make a difference in the fight against cancer.
“We invite you to come and find out about how to become a Cuppa For CANSA host and to meet the friendly CANSA team. Join us at the Cuppa launch events by contacting your local Care Centre via cansa.org.za or call us on our toll-free line 0800 22 6622,” said Ms Maria Scholtz, the organisation’s head of sustainability.
She said for 14 years the Shoprite Group has been supporting the campaign.
Through in-store Cuppa events, the company had raised over R1-million and also donated R94 000 to the care homes.
Ms Scholtz said research has shown that rooibos contains anti-oxidants that help fight cancer.
“And thus CANSA is proud to welcome Glen Rooibos Tea as the official tea supplier for the Cuppa For CANSA events. We are excited to see what 2016 has in store,” she said.
Proceeds from this year’s instalment of the campaign are aimed at keeping CANSA’s nine Mobile Health Clinics on the road.
The clinics travel to remote areas throughout South Africa to raise awareness about the benefit of early detection and provide cancer education and screening.
Launch events will be held at the same time throughout the country.

Cuppa events are held between the months of June and October.
