Another Comrades under the belt for mayor

“I am over the moon for having annexed seven medals out of seven races."

The Ekurhuleni executive mayor, Clr Mondli Gungubele, managed to finish this year’s edition of the Comrades Marathon with seven minutes to spare before the cut off time of 12 hours.

“This was a tough race and as I was approaching Durban all I could think of was another medal,” said the mayor.

He said he entered the race with a knee injury.

“I was worried about it bothering me as I ran, but fortunately there was very little discomfort,” said the mayor.

“I am over the moon for having annexed seven medals out of seven races,” said Clr Gungubele, after finishing the race.

The mayor said he will soon be starting preparations for next year’s race.

“I plan to run this race for as long as I feel strong,” said Clr Gungubele.
