Two assaults reported in Eastleigh

Assault GBH is a crime committed with the intention of causing serious bodily injury to the victim.

Only two cases of assault with the intent of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) have been reported during April to date..

Both incidents took place at the Eastleigh taxi rank.

According to the SAPS, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm is a form of assault that consists of the application of unlawful and intentional force to another person. Assault GBH is a crime committed with the intention of causing serious bodily injury to the victim.

The first instance of assault GBH occurred two weeks ago, about 500 metres from the Eastleigh taxi rank.

The victim was assaulted by two suspects, who were subsequently arrested and detained shortly after the incident. According to Edenvale SAPS’ acting communications officer, Warrant Officer Jean Olckers, a case was opened and is going to court.

The second incident occurred on April 16, between the 2pm and 4pm. W/O Olckers said the assault occurred just outside the Eastleigh taxi rank.

The victim of this assault was attacked by three unknown suspects and was hospitalised as a result of his injuries.

The incident is under investigation and a case has been opened.

W/O Olckers urged the community to come forward with any information that could assist the SAPS with the case.
