Renier is recovering

He has frontal lobe damage, temporal lobe damage, occipital lobe damage, contusions on his brain, and contusions on his lungs, a dislocated jaw, a baseline fracture of the skull as well as fractures on the left side of his head.

The NEWS’ sister publication the Alberton RECORD reported about Renier Moolman on March 29 after he fell from his house’s roof in Edenvale on Friday, March 18. He is on the road to recovery.

Renier fell hard on the back of his head and sustained major injuries to his brain and lungs.

The doctor also said that he could suffer permanent brain damage.

He has frontal lobe damage, temporal lobe damage, occipital lobe damage, contusions on his brain, and contusions on his lungs, a dislocated jaw, a baseline fracture of the skull as well as fractures on the left side of his head.

His wife, Angie told the RECORD that his doctors are positive with his progress so far: he is breathing on his own now, and all the assisted apparatus has been removed except for the tracheotomy, which will stay in for a few more days until they are happy.

He is more alert and responding to the doctors and nurses.

“The doctor has told us that they are now preparing him to go into therapy. The doctor has not indicated when exactly he will go into therapy (rehabilitation), but did say it is still a long road ahead and extremely costly, but obviously we want to give him the best chance at making a full recovery and coming home to his family, especially to our son, who misses him terribly.”

She also said that he is still very weak in his left side.

“The doctor did say that due to him taking so long to come round, that he is concerned about the extent of the damage to his brain. Again, we won’t know the extent until he is fully awake and can be tested,” Angie added.

The Moolmans are still fighting the medical aid about them not covering the medical costs due to three days of late payment.

Angie has begged them to allow her to make a payment. She even offered to pay two or five instalments, whatever amount they wanted from them, just to show them good faith from their side.

“They would not budge and they just did not care,” she said.

Angie also said that she wanted to send her heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all the wonderful people who have contacted them and given them the most incredible love and support.

“These people are mostly strangers and they have done so much that it’s difficult to find the words to say thank you. It doesn’t seem like it’s enough to just say thank you. These people are angels and they have touched our hearts,” said a grateful Angie.

People who still want to help the family can contact Frankie Mc Kechnie (Renier’s mother-in- law) on 082 886 8325 as the family’s medical bills are increasing daily.

The family also thanked the hospital and their staff for their help and care.
