JUST IN: Four arrested for armed robbery in Illiondale

One of the suspect was wounded when he shot himself in the foot.

The four suspects were arrested in Illiondale this afternoon for their involvement in an armed robbery which took place in Hurlyvale this morning.

Members of the Mamba Special Operations Unit spotted the vehicle and gave chase.

The suspects were cordoned off on McNab Road in Illiondale through the combined efforts of multiple security groups, EMPD, SAPS and CPF.

According to the SAPS shots were fired between Mamba officers and the suspects.

One of the suspect was wounded when he shot himself in the foot.

Two of the suspects barricaded themselves in an outside bathroom on a residents property but were later arrested.

According to the acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS Warrant Officer Jean Olckers a fourth suspect managed to escape arrest at the time.

He was later found on Forsythe Road following a tip-off from the community.

Items take during the robbery were recovered.

“It was also found that the vehicle was used in a house robbery in Randburg” said W/O Olckers.

“SAPS asks the residents of Illiondale  to look out for any suspicious items on their properties including a firearm belonging to the suspects” said W/O Olckers.
