Strong showing from junior footballers

The Edenvale Football Club hosted its Annual John Tennant Junior Tournament from April 1 to 3 at JP Bezuidenhout Park in Edenvale.

The tournament was a pre-season event before the start of the league, which kicked off on April 9.

The event was an Easterns district and cross-border tournament and all soccer teams were invited to compete as it was the last cross-border event for the pre-season. The event was held for the age groups U/6 to U/12.

Clubs that attended included Edenvale, Olympia, Corinthians, Bedfordview Country Club, Alberton, Germiston, Modderfontein, Mondeor, Union, Smiling Stars, Benoni Northerns, Rovers, Linhill and Springs Old Boys.

The winning U/6 team was Alberton, with Edenvale taking the runner-up spot.

Olympia walked away as the U/7 winner with Rovers as the runner-up.

Mondeor won the U/8 group with Olympia as the runner-up.

In the U/9 group, the winners were Rovers and runner up was Edenvale.

Modderfontein won the U/10 group with Springs Old Boys coming second.

In the U/11 category, the winners were Corinthians with Alberton as the runner up.

Benoni Northerns won the U/12 matches with Bedfordview Country Club as the runner up.

The winners and runner-ups each receive gold and silver medals respectively, with the John Tenant Trophy being awarded to the Benoni Northerns U/12 team.
