Bennies shine at rugby fest

Hard work and good discipline pays off for Bennies.

St Benedict Preparatory’s first rugby team took part in the annual St John’s rugby festival.

The competition took place from March 24 to 28.

This was the seventh year St Benedict’s has participated in this festival.

Over the course of the five days, the team played four matches.

The team opened the festival on the main field against St Davids. As it was the first match of the festival, the field was still extremely wet and made fluent, running rugby difficult. St Benedict’s managed a narrow 7-5 victory.

The team’s second match of the day lent itself to a much better quality of rugby, with the conditions improving tremendously. The boys played a well-structured game where they ran in seven tries. The final score against Virginia was 43-0.

On Saturday, March 26, the team had the opening ceremony and straight afterwards they had to face The Ridge. With good defensive lines, the first team managed to protect their try line with vigour. At the end of the match the scoreboard read 19-0.

St Benedict’s last match of the festival was against Pridwin. Hard work and good discipline paid off as they managed to beat them 29-0.
