Bennies shows heart

In the three games played, the team was unable to come out victorious.

Although they had a hard time, St Benedict’s College not only displayed great team spirit, but also showed a willingness to play attractive rugby during the KES Easter Festival.

In the three games played, the team was unable to come out victorious.

The first game was played on Thursday, March 24, against HS Waterkloof.

Being an early game there was a lot of dew on the field, which made handling difficult and led to many mistakes from both sides. However, it was the Waterkloof players who eventually emerged as the 17-7 victors.

For Bennies, Shingiri Hlatswayo scored a try and Keagan Marengo converted.

The second game was played on Saturday, March 26, and this is where the Bennies Boys showed they have the potential to play great rugby.

They started off in magnificent fashion, running at Queens College from all angles and put a lot of pressure on the defence by playing quickly. Their first try resulted from a quick throw-in on their own line after thwarting an attack.

The team ran the length of the field and were rewarded with a try by Shingiri Hlatswayo. Bennies’ players continued to attack and even though they conceded two tries, they scored another two by half time through Kuda Mundove and Sean Kruger.

All three tries were converted by Keagan Marengo. He also added two penalties. The half time score was 27-12 to Bennies.

In the second half, Queens evened up the score to 27-27.

The game against Kingswood Collage was played on Monday, March 28.

This was an eagerly contested game, with both sides showing a willingness to run with the ball and both defended well.

Eventually though, Bennies went down 30-22 but they showed fighting spirit and almost won the game.

Sean Kruger scored twice and Shawn Ingle once. Keagan Marengo added two conversions and a penalty.
