Shooting suspect faces more charges

The victims were both shot in their lower bodies.

The man arrested in connection with the shooting of two Mozambican nationals last Saturday has also been charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The suspect shot and wounded his victims at a restaurant along Van Buuren Road, a few metres from the Bedfordview Police Station.

The Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Mduduzi Nhlabathi, said witnesses gave their accounts of the night’s events to the police.

“Eyewitnesses told the police officers at the scene that they saw the suspect cock his firearm and shoot the men who were sitting at a table. He shot them at close range and then climbed into his car and drove off,” said W/O Nhlabathi.

The suspect was nabbed at his home in Primrose.

The victims were transported to the OR Tambo and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic hospitals for treatment.

W/O Nhlabathi said the firearms and ammunition were found in the suspect’s home during his arrest.

He said the victims were both shot in their lower bodies.
