Blessed with a place to stay

...not a day goes by without laughter, and maybe a tear or two

The busy, bustling dining hall of Edenhaven has a happy atmosphere of full bellies and relaxation.

Residents sat down with the NEWS to chat about life at Edenhaven.

Ms Loraine James, Mr Richard Curin and Ms Deann Boas enjoyed their lunch on the afternoon of March 16.

Ms James (82), who is currently going onto her 14th year at Edenhaven, worked previously in Modderfontein.

“I’m still here,” said Ms James jokingly when asked about how she is doing at Edenhaven.

Mr Curin (82) worked as a banker for 45 years but has only been at Edenhaven for the past year.

“The older residents often tell me I am too young to be here,” he joked.

Ms Boas stays at Edenhaven under semi-frail care due to health issues associated with her legs.

Mr Curin described the overall ambiance as “very nice”. “Not a day goes by without laughter, and maybe a tear or two,” he added

“When you get old your body wears out,” said Mr Curin, and even though he is feeling the aches and pains, he still drives himself around and plays bowls in Primrose.

“The home takes us out three times a week to go shopping and to go out for entertainment.”

Edenhaven organises trips for its residents, taking them to places like the Vaal and Pug Rescue. They have also organised a fête that the residents are looking forward to.

“At Edenhaven there is an ongoing improvement in security,” said Ms James. “Edenhaven is beautiful. We are blessed to have a place to stay.”
