IDP and budget tabled for community consultation

Copies of the draft IDP and Budget can be viewed at all pay points and public libraries within Ekurhuleni's areas.

Ekurhuleni residents are called on to comment on the next term draft budget.

Ekurhuleni spokesperson, Mr Themba Gadebe, said this is in line with Section 16 of the Municipal Financial Management Act.

“The draft Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and budget for the city’s 2016/17 to 2018/19 financial period has been tabled for noting by council. On April 28 this year the budget for the City of Ekurhuleni will be tabled for approval. This is the last budget tabled for the 2011 to 2016 term of office,” he said.

Mr Gadebe said the IDP is a process through which municipalities prepare a strategic development plan which extends over a five-year period.

“It includes the planning, budgeting, resource allocation and decision-making processes within the municipality. It also includes the public participation process. This means that members of the public and other interested stakeholders have the chance to comment on the city’s draft 2016/17 to 2018/19 IDP and the 2016/17 to 2018/19 municipal budget,” he said.

He said copies of the draft IDP and Budget can be viewed at all pay points and public libraries within Ekurhuleni’s areas.

Mr Gadebe said residents and those interested can also log on www.ekurhuleni.gov.za to view the copies.

“Any interested parties can comment on the documents by completing a comments form at any of the points where the documents are available for viewing. They can also do it by filling in the form electronically on the website; or email comments to Budgettips@ekurhuleni.gov.za from March 1 to 31 this year,“ he said.

He said March has been declared the Budget Tips month.

“Public meetings will be held in all customer care centres across the city. That is where the proposed IDP and budget will be presented. Members of the public will have the opportunity to engage with city officials at these meetings. They will be able to make their comments,” Mr Gadebe said.

On March 9, Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Community Safety, Clr Vivienne Chauke, will be addressing Edenvale residents at the Edenvale Community Centre on the corner of Van Riebeeck and Second Street from 6pm. This will include residents of ward 11, 12, 18, 19.
