Sebenza SAPS officers back in court in March

One of the officers was arrested on February 9 and one was arrested on February 10.

The two Sebenza police officers who were arrested have been released from police custody until their next court appearance.

Both appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court and the case will proceed during their next appearance on March 10.

On February 17, the NEWS reported that two officers were arrested after releasing a suspect who was arrested for dealing in drugs.

One of the officers was arrested on February 9 and one was arrested on February 10.

The Sebenza SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Sharon Mahamba-Tsotsotso, said on February 5 a man was arrested for dealing in drugs.

“On Sunday, when the branch commander was checking the dockets that were supposed to go to court on Monday, he realised that the suspect had been released,” said Sgt Tsotsotso.

She said the two officers were arrested and charged with extortion, corruption and impersonating a legal representative.

On February 17, the officers were released on a warning and will appear in court soon.

“When a suspect is charged for dealing in drugs, they must appear in court; therefore the suspect was not supposed to be released without appearing in court first,” she said.
