Theft out of vehicles a concern

Avoid being a victim of crime.

The Edenvale SAPS is concerned about the number of theft out of motor vehicle incidents.

According to the acting communications officer, Warrant Officer Jean Olckers, theft out of motor vehicles at shopping centres are spiking the crime statistics.

In order to avoid being a victim of crime, the following crime tips for the week should be considered:

Keep your windows open by about five centimetres. A closed window is easier to break.

Be aware of your surroundings at all times.

Do not take out or use cellphones as soon as you stop.

If your cellphone is in the vehicle, make use of a belt clip. Avoid your cellphone being visible in your car.

Lock handbags and other valuables in the boot of your vehicle and not behind the seats.

Be careful of being watched, therefore always be vigilant.

When locking vehicles, double-check to ensure that it has locked.
