Put valuables in the boot

Theft out of motor vehicles is an increasing concern.

The Edenvale SAPS acting spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, has urged vehicle owners to not leave valuables inside their motor vehicles.

According to Lt Col Roberts, Greenstone has been the area where most of the thefts were recently reported.

“Reports on theft out of motor vehicles, especially at Greenstone Cresent, increased. Vehicle owners need to remove all valuables from their cars or leave them out of sight,” he said.

He said leaving valuables within sight creates an opportunity to become a victim of crime.

“Everyone needs to be careful and aware of their surroundings at all times, especially during this time of the year,” he said.

He said business robberies are also a concern but theft out of motor vehicles has shown a concerning increase over the past few weeks.

Among other reports, Lt Col Roberts said a suspect was arrested in a shop in Van Riebeeck Avenue for possession of drugs worth R600.

A total of 12 suspects were arrested last week for possession of drugs.
