Runners set to take on half-marathon

“Those runners planning to run the race should get their entries in soon to avoid disappointment."

The first category of the Dis-Chem Half Marathon entries are sold out.

The half marathon is organised by the Bedfordview Athletic Club and Dis-Chem Pharmacies.

The race will cover the eastern suburbs.

Participants will run through Bedfordview, Morninghill, Bedford Gardens and Primrose on January 17 next year.

Craig van der Westhuizen, from the Bedfordview Athletic Club, said the first 2 000 Early Bird online entries are sold out.

He said only about 4 000 entries were left at the time of going to print.

Craig said the entries opened on October 19 and will close on December 4, or when all the entries are sold out.

“Those runners planning to run the race should get their entries in soon to avoid disappointment,” he said.

Craig said the route is quite a tester, especially on the second part of the route.

“After a relatively flat first 11km, the next 7km just keeps climbing, but the reward at 18km is a lively downhill sprint to the finish. There is also the accompanying Rehidrat 5km Dash Fun Run on offer, if you’re not quite ready for the tough half marathon so early in the year,” said Craig.
