Aerobic action invades Ekurhuleni

Residents in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) no longer have to expose themselves to this risk, as Saturday mornings are now dedicated to aerobics marathon sessions.

Being physically inactive is considered a risk factor for several illnesses and medical conditions.

Residents in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) no longer have to expose themselves to this risk, as Saturday mornings are now dedicated to aerobics marathon sessions.

Mr Themba Gadebe, the spokesperson for the EMM, said since the beginning of the year, fitness fanatics have been converging at various sports grounds and community parks to partake in three-hour long aerobics sessions in a bid to keep their bodies in shape.

One such aerobathon took place on August 29, at the Bulithando Park in Kwa-Thema, while teams from the northern and southern parts of Ekurhuleni converged at the Reiger Park Arena for a more invigorating joint-session.

“The city-wide aerobics movement event is open, free of charge to the public and includes a variety of styles, namely Hi-Low, Kata Box and Zumba.

Participants at Bulithando Park began the session with warm-up squats and brisk jumps, followed by intense 15-minute routines, with water breaks in between,” said Mr Gadebe.

Mr Monde Ntuli, a gym instructor from Duduza said, “Keeping fit is my lifestyle and it gives me fulfillment to share my expertise with people who are passionate about leading a healthy life.”

Mr Gadebe said the Ekurhuleni aerobathon sessions will continue every Saturday morning until December, from 8am until 11am, at venues across the city.
