Suspect leaps from second floor in bid to escape arrest

Two suspects caught at Greenstone Shopping Centre.

One of two suspects jumped from the upper parking level at the Greenstone Shopping Centre in an attempt to flee from the police.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, from the Edenvale SAPS, the guards at the shopping centre alerted the police after seeing a suspicious Mercedez Benz parked in the upper parking level.

“The police responded and waited at the car for the drivers to emerge from the shopping centre. Two men walked out and as the police walked towards them, the one suspect jumped from the second floor and broke his leg,” said Lt Col Roberts.

“The key of the vehicle and an unlicensed firearm was found in the possession of the other suspect,” he said.

Lt Col Roberts said the Mercedez was reported stolen earlier this year in Midrand.

“Thank you to the guards at the Greenstone Shopping Centre for alerting the police,” said Lt Col Roberts.
