Son accidentally shoots dad

He said parents should always make sure their firearms are safely locked away and kept away when around people.

The Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant (Sgt) Mduduzi Nhlabathi has urged parents to be careful with firearms around children.

This warning comes after a man was accidentally shot and injured by his son in Bedfordview.

According to Sgt Nhlabathi, a shooting in AG de Witt Street was reported.

“An officer was dispatched and upon arrival, he was told the son was holding his father’s firearm when he accidentally discharged it. The bullet went through the sliding door after scratching the father’s neck. His father confirmed it was an accident,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

He said parents should always make sure their firearms are safely locked away and kept away when around people.

“Accidents and mistakes can happen and we urge people to always ensure their firearms are locked away,” he said.

Sgt Nhlabathi said the person handling the firearm should be trained and licensed to carry the calibre of firearm.
