SAPS warns of Edenvale crime hot-spots

Illiondale is targeted due to its proximity to escape routes.

Several areas were identified as hot-spots for criminal activity, following an increase in crime in Edenvale.

According to the acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, criminals are targeting three areas in Edenvale.

“Illiondale, Eastleigh and the Avenues are targeted by criminals for a number of reasons,” said Lt Col Roberts.

Illiondale is targeted due to its proximity to escape routes.

“Illiondale is also fairly isolated from other areas,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that the majority of crimes are hit-and-run scenarios, where opportunistic criminals hit a house and leave the area quickly.

“Another area of concern is Eastleigh, due to the variety of properties in the areas. The mix of factories, small businesses and residential properties makes Eastleigh a target for a trio crime syndicate,” said Lt Col Roberts.

The third area of concern for the SAPS is the Avenues.

“The Avenues is surrounded by escape routes that lead to highways,” said Lt Col Roberts.

Residents are advised to be alert at all times.
