Plastic recycling company burns down

Fire at Fountain Road business burns for more than two hours.

Mr Aaron Mafunda, the spokesperson for Ekurhuleni Emergency Services confirmed this morning that a recycling business in Eastleigh is not still ablaze.

This follows residents’ reports to the NEWS that recyclable plastics on the property were still burning.

A recycling business in Eastleigh, Edenvale, was severely damaged in a fire on Sunday night.

By 10pm on Sunday, the building was still ablaze.

Mr Paul van Aarde, the owner of Trade and Motors Panel Beaters next door to the burning building, said the fire had been burning for more than two hours.

“I received a call just before 8pm,” said Mr van Aarde.

“I was told the building situated next to my business was on fire. I opened my shop for the fire department to have access from this side,” Mr Van Aarde told the NEWS, while on the scene.

Mr Mafunda, said the cause of the fire would have to be investigated.

“Fortunately there were no injuries,” said Mr Mafunda.

“With the assistance of the Edenvale, Bedfordview, Kempton Park and Primrose fire departments, we had the fire under control,” he said.

The owners of Silver Energy were unavailable for comment.
