Resident objects to application for business rights

No more businesses are needed in Edenvale.

Upon discovering that owners of a property in Gibson Road, Hurlyvale, have applied for business rights in the residential area, Mr Gerard Mavian has written a letter of objection.

“The home owners said they were refurbishing the property for residential purposes. They said they were building a flat for their father-in-law,” said Mr Mavian.

“I have, however, been advised via a registered letter that the owners have plans to turn their property into a crèche, dance school and host karate classes from one location.

“The owners have not been open and honest regarding their intentions. The conversion of a residential property will have a major impact on traffic. It will create noise disturbance from the crèche during daytime, karate lessons potentially in the afternoons and evenings, and dance lessons at the same time, as well as on weekends.

“The owners will not be affected by it as they are not living on the premises, but we the residents will be affected.

“Hurlyvale Primary School already runs a very effective pre-primary. Around the corner is another pre-primary and within 3km there are at least another three crèches adequately serving the area.

“Within the Edenvale area, there are over 50 dance studios and martial arts teaching facilities, hence we do not need more in our area.”
