BREAKING NEWS: Two arrested at Eastgate after shoot-out at N12/R24 split

A shoot-out ensued and the men were cornered in the undercover parking at Eastgate Shopping Centre.

Two suspects have been arrested following a shoot-out between members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) and an armed gang at the R21/N12 split.

Officers were conducting a routine crime prevention operation in Boeing Road, Bedfordview.

They stopped a vehicle to search it and issue a fine.

The suspects sped off and the officers gave chase.

A shoot-out ensued and the men were cornered in the undercover parking at Eastgate Shopping Centre.

Three of the men escaped while their two accomplices were arrested.

Three firearms were recovered as well as a bag of cellular phones.

On scene information suggests the men had robbed a cellular phone store in Brits earlier.

The Dog Unit is currently inside the centre to search for the remaining three suspects.

One of the men was injured in the shoot-out.

Residents are advised to avoid the area.
