Zumba class gathers blankets for those in need

The class also held a Zumba Fitness Masterclass in May to collect fleece blankets and material to make blankets.

Zumba instructor, Ms Winnette van Niekerk from Edenvale, recently held a winter blanket drive.

In November last year, Ms van Niekerk approached her Zumba students to assist in collecting blankets.

She asked for wool or crocheted blanket donations.

The class also held a Zumba Fitness Masterclass in May to collect fleece blankets and material to make blankets.

The Winter Blanket project has already benefited two organisations in Edenvale.

“We had no idea that we would have such great results,” said Ms van Niekerk.

“By the end of May, we had 33 crocheted and knitted blankets. We also manage to receive 42 fleece blanket donations,” she said.

In total, the class collected 75 blankets, of which 31 blankets were donated to Tarentaal Old Age Village residents.

A further 17 blankets were donated to the IMPAK Children’s home in Modderfontein.

The remainder of the blankets will be donated to Hospice in Edenvale.

“I am so proud that I was able to do this for the Edenvale community,” said Ms van Niekerk.
