Family speaks out after Modderfontein murder

"Estates are still the safest places to stay."

The family of Ms Sandy Paroniti (69) described her as a people’s person, who enjoyed her involvement in the community and the estate where she resided.

The NEWS reported previously that Ms Paroniti (69) was found murdered at her house at Thornhill Estate, Modderfontein, on May 20.

Ms Paroniti’s son-in-law, Mr Roberto Carvalho, told the NEWS his mother-in-law was a sales executive.

“She was passionate about how she made people feel and she was a great friend. Her funeral was an example of who she was because so many people came to show their respect and what a lovely person she was,” he said.

Mr Carvalho also expressed his gratitude to Thornhill Estate.

“I want to ensure the community, as well as the residents living in estates, that it is the safest places to stay, regardless of the tragic death of my mother-in-law,” said Mr Carvalho.

“The estate, along with the security where she had lived, was of great assistance during this time. Security working at estates in particular cannot scrutinize everyone entering the premises,” said Mr Carvalho.

Mr Carvalho, said the cause of his mother-in-law’s death has not yet been confirmed.

“The actual cause is still unclear and will not be revealed until a postmortem is available to the investigation, as well as to us, the family,” said Mr Carvalho.

“Although the family awaits the results, it is evident that she felt a sense of struggle and self defence during the events that lead to her death,” said Mr Carvalho.

“With regards to the items that were found, not all of them were recovered as more items have been discovered to be missing from the home,” he said.

It was previously reported that Constable Sharon Tsotsotso, from the Sebenza SAPS, had said following the discovery of the body, the SAPS followed up on information which led officers to a man in Tsakane. When questioned, the man confessed to killing the woman.
