Edenvale CPF meeting cut short

"Recording equipment not allowed" - Linda McKenzie.

The Edenvale Community Police Forum chairperson, Mrs Linda McKenzie, has adjourned tonight’s CPF meeting due to recording equipment that had been set up at the meeting venue.

“The reason provided for this was that members of the Edenvale Democratic Alliance had recording equipment set up at the venue prior to the start of the meeting. Those in attendance were told permission was required from the Gauteng MEC of Community Safety for recordings to take place,” said Charmaine Slater, Edenvale senior journalist, who also attended the meeting.

When Mrs McKenzie asked why recording equipment had been set up, DA members declined to answers.

The meeting was adjourned to next meeting. Tonight’s meeting was the last before the election of the forum’s new executive committee.

“Residents are now upset as they attended the meeting to discuss and hopefully resolve problems such as overcrowding,” said Charmaine.

DA MPL, Mike Waters said, “I flew up from Cape Town to attend this meeting. This is an open and public forum. What are they trying to hide?”

Charmaine reported former Bedfordview ward councillor and now member of the Gauteng Legislature, Michele Clarke, has tried contacting the MEC’s office but to no avail.
