Sporting fun at Wedge Gardens

Fun was the order of the day when Wedge Gardens hosted an internal sports day on May 13.

Fun was the order of the day at Wedge Gardens, when the Rand Aid Association-run treatment centre hosted an internal sports day on May 13.

The event was organised by the University of the Witwatersrand’s occupational therapy students, Rizwana Saber and Safiyya Koor.

The students took the initiative for the sports day, but allowed patients to take ownership of particular aspects of the day.

The day started off with a talent show, which included a play, rap and choir.

The talent show was followed by ‘boeresport’, such as three-legged races, an egg run, tug of war and a wheelbarrow race. The action culminated in a beach volleyball match.

“The event was a great success and lifted the spirits of Wedge Gardens’ staff and residents,” said Ms Adel Grobbelaar, who heads up Wedge Gardens.
