Robbery gang out on R3000 bail each

Bedfordview residents say they are living in fear after learning that the gang members arrested in connection with home invasions have been released on bail.

Bedfordview Community Policing Forum (BCPF) chairperson, Mr Gavin Henry, said he was devastated that the gang members were granted bail, allegedly set at R3000 each.

“I am absolutely gutted to have to [report] that the four guys arrested last week for the home invasions are already out on R3 000 bail. Despite having previous convictions. The investigating officer was not even given the opportunity to oppose bail. We have been let down by our criminal justice system and the National Prosecuting Authority. We will not give up,” said Mr Henry.

One of the victims said she was saddened that she was ready to participate in an identity parade to link the suspects to the robbery at her house.

“What the hell is going to happen to me now? Our police have worked their hardest to arrest these men and then this? It is demoralising and I hope something can be done and quickly,” said the woman.
