Cat shot with pellet gun

It was a shocking discovery, something no animal lover ever wants to see.

Ms Cindy Mason, a Hurlyvale resident, said her cat, Buddy, was shot with a pellet gun on April 12. She said the cat came running through the house and went into hiding. When he eventually came out from hiding, she realised her cat was not using his right front leg.

Ms Mason said she didn’t realise that Buddy was shot until a few days later when she took him to the veterinarian.

Buddy had to undergo treatment to cure the infection. He also had an operation to remove the pellet and bone fragments, as the pellet had shattered his ‘elbow’. “I reported this to the SPCA inspectors but to date, they have not done a thing,” she said.

The Edenvale SPCA acknowledged that on April 17 Ms Mason phoned them to report that her feline was shot in the leg.

She said her vet had informed her that the shot came from a pellet gun at close range, causing the leg and elbow to be shattered.

Mrs Marita Acar, the manager at the Edenvale SPCA, said during the phone conversation an emotional Ms Mason was advised to phone the police, as the firing of any weapon is a police matter and should be reported.

“The SPCA is once again distraught with people’s behaviour. Unfortunately, Ms Mason had no idea who could have done this and neither the police nor the SPCA can act without some proof or a starting point for an investigation,” said Mrs Acar.
