Report domestic violence – SAPS

Social Crime Prevention Unit officer for the Bedfordview SAPS, Constable Mmaphuti Kgare has encouraged the community to report all crimes including incidences of domestic violence.

A Social Crime Prevention Unit officer from the Bedfordview SAPS, Constable Mmaphuti Kgare, has encouraged the community to report all crimes, including incidences of domestic violence.

This comes after the station, in partnership with the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) and officials from the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, recently embarked on a crime awareness road show in and around the Bedfordview policing precinct. The purpose of the road show was to educate residents and motorists about safety measures.

Const Kgare said it was important for people to report domestic violence as people often keep quiet about such crimes.

“The SAPS, and other safety structures such neighborhood watch, continue to join forces to ensure that our area is indeed safe. A number of strategies have been implemented jointly with the EMPD and these strategies do bear fruits,” she added.

Const Kgare said the crime awareness road show is aimed at creating awareness and educate the community on issues of crime and safety.

The focus was on house robberies, business robberies, domestic violence, theft of motor vehicles and theft out of vehicles. These are some of the most prevalent crimes in the area. Members of the community were encouraged to utilise sector policing for prompt response, to report acts of crime and to also form and participate in crime sector forums and street committees.
