Another podium finish for Toni

Under the guidance of new trainer Darrel Fitz-Gerald from Pelotrain, Toni was as prepared as she could be.

After a great start to the national motocross season, Edenvale’s Toni Jardine worked hard to prepare for round two of the Monster Energy South African National Motocross Championship held at Zone 7 in Cape Town recently.

Under the guidance of new trainer Darrel Fitz-Gerald from Pelotrain, Toni was as prepared as she could be.

Unfortunately, the week before, she had a massive setback and suffered an injury to her groin while training at Sand Trax in Sasolburg.

It was not until late on Thursday that she decided to still make the trip to Cape Town and see how she felt when she arrived.

Although still tender, with proper care and rest, she was able to participate.

With over 30 riders on the start line between the MX3, ladies and senior support class, the racing was intense.

In heat one, Toni did not have a great start.

She managed to move through the pack but a pile up in one of the racing lines forced her to come to a dead stop, which set her back again.

She pushed hard to catch up to third in the ladies class, but the jumping was taking a toll on her injury.

The track was also rough, which added to the discomfort.

Toni pushed through and finished third.

In heat two, Toni again failed to make a good start but managed to ease into second place among the women.

Home town favourite, Bo-Dene Scott, had a fall but once she was back up, the battle for second was on.

With time running out and Toni’s injury causing more discomfort, Bo-Dene managed to make the pass on the last lap and Toni once again took third.

Toni took third overall on the day.

She now moves into the points lead, with five rounds still to go.
