Fine not listed on database

Due date for payment is approaching so I called the traffic court in Edenvale to enquire about this, and was advised the fines aren’t uploaded and I can’t pay via payment partner.

EDITOR – I was stopped at a roadblock on January 31 on Van Riebeeck Avenue and received a traffic fine/notice to appear in court from the EMPD for not displaying a motor vehicle license disk.

On the notice I received, it advises that a payment of admission of guilt can be made at a number of ‘payment partners’, such as the Post Office, FNB, ABSA,…via their websites.

My fine is not listed here.

On the EMM website there’s a link to Pay For It – traffic fines www.viewfines.co.za

My fine is not listed here either.

The due date for payment is approaching so I called the traffic court in Edenvale to enquire about this, and was advised the fines aren’t uploaded and I can’t pay via a payment partner. I must come to the address listed on the fine and pay it there.

Is this indeed the case – fines cannot be paid via payment partners listed on the notice?

What’s to prevent a ‘lost’ pad of traffic fines being used to fine motorists, payments made possibly not reflecting on any system?

BYRON,

EDENVALE.

EDITOR’S COMMENT – The spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), Mr Wilfred Kgasago, commented as follows:

I would wish to apologise for the inconvenience experienced by the concerned motorist.

It is actually fact that if the information has not been uploaded it will not reflect in the third party’s record to enable payment.

Several reasons can be attributed to this, such as backlogs in capturing coupled with timeous uploading to the third party’s records.

The EMPD is working on this challenge to avert a situation where clients are inconvenienced in this way.
