A plea to “inconsiderate” drivers

This is unacceptable and remember that while you are ‘just’ doing whatever, a disabled driver may ‘just’ arrive and need the parking.

EDITOR – On Wednesday, April 1, I went to the Wiesenhof at the shopping centre on Linksfield Road and needed to use a disabled parking bay.

It was about 12.30pm.

Unfortunately, this was not possible as a driver with no disabled permit displayed had chosen to not only use one parking bay, but to park across both so that neither could be used by disabled drivers.

Many people use the ‘I’m just, running in, dropping someone, fetching something’ excuse to justify using disabled bays.

This is unacceptable and remember that while you are ‘just’ doing whatever, a disabled driver may ‘just’ arrive and need the parking.

If you are able, it is easy for you to park properly and walk a bit further.

The reason there are disabled bays designated is that it is not so easy for a disabled person who needs the wider bay to get their assisting device out of the vehicle.

Someone suggested I scrawl across the windscreen in red lipstick and I must say the idea is tempting, as this sort of behaviour happens far too often.

Please drivers, ‘just’ respect the rights of the disabled and leave our parking bays alone.

NICOLETTE BOSMAN,

EDENVALE.
