Possible chemical spill in Sebenza
Mrs Lesley Thomas, from the Illiondale Wetland Buddies, told the NEWS that there have been previous spillages in the area.
Residents have raised concerns over a possible chemical spill along Ingwe Road in Sebenza.
Following the rain from last night and this morning, a white foam has washed over the road and into the stream which feeds the Illiondale Wetlands.
“We are not sure where it is coming from or what it is,” said Ms Doris Jemmell, an employee at a business along Ingwe Road.
Mrs Lesley Thomas, from the Illiondale Wetland Buddies, told the NEWS that there have been previous spillages in the area.
“Sometimes the foam is pink, sometimes it is green and sometimes it is white,” she said.
Mrs Thomas said she will investigate the spill.
Comment from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) was requested.
