Speeding motorists must be held accountable

Some Bedfordview residents have called for the law to take speeding motorists to task.

The residents were reacting to an accident that took place on Kloof Road on Friday, February 27.

According to the ward 20 councillor, Clr Jill Humphreys, some residents have called for speed humps to be installed on Kloof Road.

“There have been concerns in recent weeks of motorists not stopping at intersections such as Kloof and Talisman roads, as well as Nicol and Talisman,” said Clr Humphreys.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident which took place at 5am, involved a delivery bakkie which overturned near Oriel Park.

Clr Humphreys said although the Metro Police often hand fines to motorists who don’t stop at stop signs or abide by the rules of the road, the responsibility of safe driving was that of motorists.
