Bag of mail left on driveway

Mrs Ahrensmeier said later during the day an official from the Post Office arrived at her home looking for the bag.

An Isandovale resident was surprised to find a large bag filled with post on her driveway.

Mrs Cynthia Ahrensmeier said she noticed the bag on her driveway and was shocked when she discovered its contents.

“It had a slip with my address on it. The note also had 14 kilometres on it. When I open the bag, it was filled with mail. I was unsure whether someone wanted me to walk around delivering it,” she said.

Mrs Ahrensmeier said she took the bag inside to prevent Pikitup from throwing it away.

“It was our garbage collection day and the bag was a similar one used for recycling. People are waiting for their mail and it was nearly thrown away,” she said.

Mrs Ahrensmeier said later during the day an official from the Post Office arrived at her home looking for the bag.

“He was on a bicycle. He told me that because the mail is heavy, he dropped some it off in different places. He said when the first bag is finished, they go back and collect the next bag. The official told me there is a lot of mail waiting to be delivered owing to the recent postal strike and that is why they came up with this method,” said Mrs Ahrensmeier.

She added that this strategy is a security risk for residents.

“I am sitting here with people’s sensitive information; their bank details, policies and other details. If this bag had landed in the wrong hands, what could have happened? This bag had my address on it, so I had the right to open it, but clearly it was not meant for me. The Post Office needs to formulate another strategy as this one is dangerous,” she said.

Mrs Ahrensmeier added that she was relieved she was not expected to walk 14 kilometres delivering post to her neighbours.
