SPCA thanks community for contributions

The annual Edenvale SPCA Dog’s Dinners fundraising initiative, held from December to the end of January, has come to a close.

In total, contributions from the community reached a staggering R169 957,75.

The spokesperson of the Edenvale SPCA, Ms Marita Acar, said the contribution will go a long way in sustaining the operations of the SPCA throughout the year.

“The money will be used mainly for the treatment of animals. Some money will also go towards the running costs of vehicles,” she said.

Ms Acar said the organisation also received a lot of food for the animals, donated by individuals and corporates.

“We have sufficient food for the animals at the moment and we are grateful for each and every person who made an effort to make a donation. We encourage the community to continue donating because over time the resources will get depleted again,” said Ms Acar.

She thanked the community for a sustained commitment to supporting the SPCA.

“We could not thank the community enough for their contributions. The community was outstanding; their donations will make life easier for us going into the year,” she said.

Ms Acar said the SPCA had its resources stretched as a results of a high intake of animals during the festive season.

“We have taken in 263 animals over the festive season period, which includes stray animals and others which were donated. With a number like that, we had our resources stretched to the limit,” she said.
