Criminals defraud unsuspecting grade 1 parents.

According to the letter, parents who pay R4 000 into the account will not have to pay the full R6 000 school fees to the school.

Criminals are attempting to defraud unsuspecting grade 1 parents.

Ms Ceren Pinkney, from Sir Edmund Hillary Primary School, said one alert parent picked up on the scam and alerted the school.

Criminals have posted letters in post boxes in the areas surrounding the school and are offering discounted school fees for all parents of grade 1 pupils who pay their fees into an account rather than to the school.

According to the letter, parents who pay R4 000 into the account will not have to pay the full R6 000 school fees to the school.

“The parent who alerted the school noticed a spelling mistake in the name of the school and also discovered that the stationary list attached to the letter was for grade 2 pupils and not grade 1 pupils,” said Ms Pinkney.

She added that the account is in no way linked to the school.

“If parents fall for this scam they will not have money to pay for the school fees. Schools in the area are struggling as it is,” said Ms Pinkney.
