Island at home affairs cordoned off

Almost every day we were attending to accidents in the area. These were caused as a result of motorists parking illegally on the island.

Residents who visited the Edenvale Home Affairs offices yesterday would have noticed something a little different.

“At 5am yesterday morning, we cordoned off the island at the Edenvale Home Affairs,” said the manager for the Edenvale City Improvement District (ECID), Mrs Linda McKenzie.

She added that this was done to curb the number of accidents which were taking place.

“Almost every day we were attending to accidents in the area. These were caused as a result of motorists parking illegally on the island,” said Mrs McKenzie.

She also said that a number of the accidents were serious and many people had sustained injuries.

“We simply could not wait for council to take action. We had to step in and do something,” said Mrs McKenzie.

Residents are asked to take note that the parking area of Shamdor has been made available for parking for those who want to visit the Edenvale Home Affairs, as well as the Edenvale SARS branch.

“Entrance to the parking is located on Van Riebeeck Avenue, while the exit leads to Eighth Avenue,” said Mrs McKenzie.

Alternatively, residents can park on Van Riebeeck Avenue or make use of the Edenvale Library’s parking.
