Increased SAPS visibility decreases crime

SAPS made a number of arrests as a result of tip-offs from private security companies.

A partnership between the Sebenza SAPS and private security companies has helped curb crime in the area.

According to the Sebenza SAPS communications manager, Constable Sharon Mahamba-Tsotsotso, the SAPS made a number of arrests as a result of tip-offs from private security companies.

“We have a good relationship with them, they are all over and are able to alert us if they spot any criminal activity in the area,” said Const Mahamba.

She added that the rate of crime for this December is twice as low when compared to other years, due to increased police visibility.

“We are almost on zero percent. Crime appears to be low this festive season, but our police officers are working around the clock to ensure we eliminate any criminal activity. We will continue patrolling our streets to make sure our community is safe. Generally, during this time of the year, we also get a lot of cases including assault cases, but this year we have seen a large decrease,” she said.
