SAPS condemns road rage against Edenvale senior citizen

The acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said the incident was deplorable.

The Edenvale SAPS has lashed out at two youngsters involved in a road rage incident against a 66-year-old Edenvale resident.

The acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said the incident was deplorable.

“There is no way we could begin to condone the behaviour of these two youngsters towards one of Edenvale’s senior citizens,” said Lt Col Roberts.

On Friday, Mr John Bailey* was left shaken after two youngsters attacked him while he was driving on Hendrik Potgieter Road.

“I had left my house for a quick trip and was driving through Dowerglen. I have an old car and sometimes the indicators do not work so well and will stay on long after I have turned,” said Mr Bailey.

He added that he had reached Hendrik Potgieter Road and was followed by two 20-somethings in a black Jeep Wrangler.

“I must have irritated them because they started swearing at me. I tried to explain that sometimes the indicators don’t work too well and the young man called me an old fart,” he said.

Mr Bailey then retaliated with words.

“The young woman in the Jeep approached my driver’s side window and hit me in the face. My glasses fell off and the two drove away before I could get their registration plate details,” said Mr Bailey.

He added that in the process of driving off, the youngsters hit the front of his car.

“The incident left black tyre marks along the side of my car,” he said.

No arrests have been made.
