Edenvale crime stats revealed

Common robberies increased by 90 percent, with most incidents occurring in the Avenues, Greenstone and along Terrace Road between 5pm and 9pm.

Although the crime report back for the last quarter has shown an overall decrease in criminal activity in Edenvale, serious crimes continue to increase.

At the October Edenvale Community Police Forum (ECPF) meeting held on Thursday night, Edenvale SAPS Crime Intelligence revealed that contact crimes increased.

These include common, house and business robberies.

Common robberies increased by 90 percent, with most incidents occurring in the Avenues, Greenstone and along Terrace Road between 5pm and 9pm.

A significant increase was also recorded on the statistics for house robberies.

Problem areas for house robberies include Eastleigh Ridge, Illiondale and the Edenvale Avenues.

Most robberies in these areas occur between 10am and 2pm.

Another area of concern for house robberies is Dowerglen, where most incidents took place at night.

Incidents of burglary at residential and business premises both showed a decrease along with motor vehicle thefts.

Theft out of motor vehicles, which include incidents of smash and grabs, showed an increase.

Murder and attempted murder increased while rape decreased.

Residents are urged to report all suspicious vehicles, people and activities to their sector police vehicles immediately.

Edenvale residents living or working in Marais Steyn Park, Dowerglen, Dunvegan, Elma Park or the part of the Avenues from Horwood Street to Hendrik Potgieter Street fall under Sector 1. The Edenvale Hospital and the Sizwe Hospital also fall under Sector 1. The Sector 1 vehicle contact numbers are 071 675 6840 and 071 675 6841.

Edenvale residents living or working in Greenstone, Eastleigh, Illiondale, De Klerk’s Hof and the part of the Avenues from Hendrik Potgieter Street to Aitken Road fall under Sector 2. The Sector 2 vehicle contact numbers are 071 675 6842 and 071 675 6843.

Edenvale residents living or working in Isandovale, Harmelia, Highway Gardens, Edenglen or Hurlyvale fall under Sector 3. The Sector 3 vehicle contact numbers are 071 675 6844 or 071 675 6845.
