Men linked to 20 mall robberies

One man was found hiding in a guest house in Yeoville. He later led the police to the second suspect at the corner of Paddock and Bezuitenhout streets.

Two men, arrested in Yeoville last week, have been linked to 20 incidents of mall robberies.

The Yeoville SAPS communications officer, Constable Thabo Malatji, said the men were arrested following the robberies of cellular phone and laptop stores in the Irene area in Pretoria.

He added that one of the suspects was found hiding in a guest house in the area.

“One man was found hiding in a guest house in Yeoville. He later led the police to the second suspect at the corner of Paddock and Bezuitenhout streets,” said Const Malatji.

He added that a 36-year-old woman was also arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms.

“She was found with three 9mm pistols, believed to have been used in these robberies. The suspects claimed the woman was storing the weapons for them,” he said.

According to Const Malatji, investigations led the police to more cases, which could be added to the charge sheet of the arrested suspects.

“The suspects have been positively linked to 20 incidents of mall robberies around Gauteng. We are still investigating because they might be linked to more cases,” said Const Malatji.
