Local lass finishes international Ironman event
Part of his duties at the traffic department in the earlier days was driving the mayor of Edenvale to various functions, including welfare events.
Edenvale resident, Michelle Joseph, recently took part in the International Ironman competition held in Mallorca.
The event covered a 3.8 kilometre swim, a 180 kilometre cycle and a 42.2 kilometre marathon.
Michelle was one of only a handful of South Africans who participated in the event.
A total of 2 800 international athletes lined up at the start to represent a number of countries, including Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
“I finished feeling like a champion and the highlight was to run down the finish line with my South African flag flying beside me,” said Michelle.
“I was so proud of being a South African and the supporting crown and announcers went crazy with cheering, congratulations and support for this African girl,” she added.
