Bizos Mini Marathon a hit with local runners

Saheti School hosts annual marathon.

Bongani Swisa won the third George Bizos Mini Marathon recently.

The two-distance marathon started at the entrance of Saheti School and ended at the school grounds. There was a 4.2 kilometre and an 8.4 kilometre race. The race attracted professional runners and novices, young and old.

Adele Klopper scooped the female category title.

Saheti School’s head of marketing, Anna Botha, said the race was started by the school’s life vice president, Advocate George Bizos.

“This family event was formed to raised funds for the George Bizos Saheti Scholarship and Bursary Fund (GBSSBF). The fund assists and helps pupils of outstanding ability with financial needs to access secondary education at Saheti School,” said Botha.

Siwisa, a professional boxing training at Nic Durant’s stable, said he wanted finish in the top 10.

“When I reached the uphill, I saw myself passing people. I ran harder and before I noticed it, I was leading. This was the first time I ran this marathon. Next year I will be more prepared. I hope I will do big marathons like Comrades Marathon and the Two Oceans Marathon in the near future,” said Siwisa.
