DA councillors from across the metro describe how the water crisis has affected their wards

On Tuesday, the DA called an urgent press conference.

This was held at the Primrose water reservoir, to brief the media on what the party calls the “true state” of the Gauteng water crisis.

This briefing followed a public meeting held in Dinwiddie, on Monday night.

This meeting was attended by the mayor, Clr Mondli Gungubele, and saw the public voicing their extreme dissatisfaction with the sporadic and at times non-existent water supply.

On Tuesday, councillors were introduced to the media by deputy chief whip Mike Waters in turn, and went on to describe how the water crisis has affected each of their wards.

What all the councillors could agree on was that there was a complete lack of communication between the metro and the affected residents.

Many wards also experienced problems with the metro-appointed water tankers.

“It is reported that very few of these tankers are operational,” said Waters.

“This has meant that privately owned tankers had to be contracted to help to curb the demand.”

Waters went on to commend the councillors on their efforts to communicate with the residents of their wards.

The DA plans to bring the water crisis to the council meeting, on Thursday.
