Council forgets about Highway Gardens hole

The one square meter hole, with danger tape and water trickling from it, has become a "feature" on the corner and now people are using it as a bin.

EDITOR – I am a resident in Beverley Avenue, Highway Gardens.

I reported a leaking pipe on the corner of Beverley Avenue and Cowie Avenue to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) at the end of April this year.

So called “repairs” have been done to the leaking pipe four times, after numerous fruitless complaints and getting references.

Every time a team arrived, they would clear the fault on the system when it had not been repaired.

The one square meter hole, with danger tape and water trickling from it, has become a “feature” on the corner and now people are using it as a bin.

It is now four months later, I am at my wits’ end and looking for assistance.

  1. “Council forgets about Highway Gardens hole”

In the online letters page with the report about the above story, there was an editorial comment after a request was made to Council for feedback from them:-

“At the time of going to print, no comment was received.”

I often see this quote in this newspaper and I wonder if EMM ever takes the trouble to respond or is the request just ignored by EMM with the hope it will go away and residents will forget?
