SAPS soccer team defeats Actonville

In the final nine minutes of the game, three reserve players; Edward Mahlala, Richard ‘Magic’ Kgomo and Tumelo Tsotetsi, were called up to play.

The Edenvale SAPS soccer team played against Actonville in the SAPS league finals on Wednesday afternoon at the Edenvale Sports Grounds.

With only a one point difference between the top two teams, players from the Edenvale SAPS knew they would have to pull out all the stops to win the game and defend their title as champions.

At half time the scores were tied 1-1.

Coach and team manager, Warrant Officer Laurence Dibete, said the Actonville team started celebrating with only ten minutes left on the clock.

In the final nine minutes of the game, three reserve players; Edward Mahlala, Richard ‘Magic’ Kgomo and Tumelo Tsotetsi, were called up to play.

Each of the three scored a goal in the dying minutes of the game to take the Edenvale SAPS team to a 4-1 victory over their rivals.

“The team knew we would not have taken the title with a draw and worked hard to score the winning goals,” said W/O Dibete.

The man of the match award was given to Hendrik Manaka.

“He played exceptionally well throughout the game,” said the coach.
