Edenvale Girl (15) kidnapped and raped

Hostage negotiators from the SAPS were called in and followed up on the information supplied.

A 15-year-old Edenvale girl was kidnapped and allegedly raped on Friday.

The acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said the girl was walking from Edenglen to Highway Gardens when she was kidnapped.

The young girl’s uncle visited the Edenvale Police Station on Friday night after she made contact with her grandmother to inform her that she had been kidnapped.

“The girl said her kidnappers were demanding a substantial ransom for her release and told her grandmother she needed to deposit the money into a bank account,” said Lt Col Roberts.

Hostage negotiators from the SAPS were called in and followed up on the information supplied.

“The cellular phone the girl had called from was traced to Johannesburg but the officers were unable to find her,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that the following morning, the girl was found at a filling station in Sunninghill.

“The matter is sensitive and investigations are underway. The girl told police officers that the men who kidnapped her also raped her,” said Lt Col Roberts.

“We urge all children to not walk alone. Whether it is at night or during the day, always be alert and if you feel unsure of your surroundings, immediately call for help,” he said.

  1. When will this country wake the hell up and start severely punishing criminals. Castrate the rapist. And bring back the death penalty. This country is far too soft on criminals. This is not a proudly south African moment.
