The Bedfordview SAPS is conducting investigations after a husband, wife and son were the victims of an armed robbery on the N3 highway.
The family was driving along the N3 when they noticed a blue sedan with three occupants attempting to stop their vehicle.
One of the men in the sedan pointed a firearm at them. The victim stopped the vehicle and the suspects exited the sedan and proceeded to search the family’s vehicle, stealing their cellular phones, a bag containing money and other belongings.
The Bedfordview SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi said, “Investigations are continuing. We are appealing to anybody who might have witnessed this crime to come forward and give the Bedfordview SAPS information.”
“It has come to our attention that more and more motorists are falling victim to these crimes. Motorist should be careful about stopping on a highway for strangers. Genuine police officials will always introduce themselves properly with proper identification cards,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.
“We also want to caution motorists who happen to get breakdowns on highways to take extra care while waiting for assistance. Remain in your car and keep the car locked,” said Sgt Nhlabathi. @BedfordJourno
I have reported seeing this 2 weeks ago to 10111 and phoned the day after to chat to the Bedfordview SAPS to ask if they need witnesses etc, and she said unless i know the criminals personally, I should “stay out of it” They Are so extremely brutal and pushed the car through tree lanes to stop them. Cars behind them had to swerve violently to get out of “shooting range” Ridiculous!!!!
These criminals are so brazen. Their modus operandi is almost impossible to beat. No matter how alert you are, no matter how intelligent you are, no matter how much common sense you have, there is nothing you can do if criminals brandish a gun through the window and order you to stop!!! So you think: if I ignore them they will shoot at me; if I accelerate they will accelerate as well and shoot at me; if I try to do something stupid they will shoot at me. So in the end the only thing left to do is to stop and let them rob you. These criminals are terrible and they put their victims in a situation from which it is impossible to escape! No safety tip can prevent this type of robbery. They must be caught and stopped.
