Pensioner attacked in Dowerglen

The two men claimed they were in the area to read electricity meters for Eskom.

A 70 year old man was attacked in his Dowerglen Ext 5 home this afternoon by two men posing as Eskom employees.

According to Mr Gerhardt Venter from SSG, who responded to the scene, the two men were driving a white Volkwagen polo and were smartly dressed.

“The two men claimed they were in the area to read electricity meters for Eskom. The resident refused the two men access to his property and told them the meter box was located across the road,” said Mr Venter.

A short while later, the men returned to the elderly man’s house.

“They told the resident that there was a problem with his meter and they would need to have a look at it. The resident opened the gate for the men,” said Mr Venter.

Once inside, one of the men produced a firearm.

“The two men dragged the elderly resident to the bedroom where he was tied up and his house ransacked,” said Mr Venter.

He added that a neighbour contacted SSG.

The elderly man was treated for several injuries.
